Are you living STRONG? Did you work STRONG yesterday? Did you do your best? Were you energized? Did you apply your natural talents? If you answered yes to those questions, you are living and working STRONG.
If you’re living and working Strong, you are likely doing your best work inspiring others and, also, are more relaxed. How can we, then, learn to have more of these days, and repeat them more often?
It starts with having a true understanding of your natural talents, those naturally occurring behaviors or thoughts. You might already know what some of those are, but the StrengthsFinder tool helps us better articulate and define. StrengthsFinder is a $10 assessment tool available online here.
What’s the difference between talents and strengths? If we intentionally apply them positively, there is no difference. But, if we do not, they remain as talents but do not become Strengths. In fact, misapplied talents actually quickly become our greatest weaknesses: The communicator becomes a blabbermouth, the maximizer becomes too critical, positivity becomes naïve or over-confident.
Wouldn’t you think that if these talents truly come naturally to us, that we are already applying them every day? Funny how that doesn’t happen. Life, kids, schedules, to do lists, assignments, bosses…they all tend to take priority, and somehow our days become filled with tasks instead of talents. If we can just intentionally apply our talents while doing these activities we might make better choices, have more fun with the task or assignment, or be more successful in their accomplishment!
People who focus on their strengths are 3 times as likely to report having an excellent quality of life and 6 times more likely to be engaged in their careers! They look forward to going to work, have more positive interactions with coworkers, treat customers better, achieve more daily, tell their friends they work for a great company, and have more positive, creative and innovative moments! Wouldn’t you want to work in an environment where this was happening?
