I’m Lisa Helms, the newest team member to Purple Ink! I’m in my dream job as the Director of Recruiting and HR Technology. Every day, I get to do what I’m passionate about to help companies hire in today’s competitive market for talent, while leveraging the power of HR technology.

I have personally and professionally known JoDee Curtis for many years as a well-respected Human Resources thought leader, so when the chance came up to be a part of the team, there was no hard decision. JoDee is a champion for allowing people to use their strengths to focus on career development and contribute to the success of Purple Ink.

My top 5 strengths are Ideation, Strategic, WOO, Futuristic, and Adaptability. After learning my top strength is Ideation, it was not surprising, but explains a lot about how I interact with people and my “glass half-full” personality. Ideas give me positive anticipation of what can be achieved as a team. A technique I have used many times is beach ball. It’s a great exercise to give everyone an opportunity to bring ideas to the table while brainstorming. You can even add a beach ball to make it more fun!

My second strength is Strategic. This comes in helpful when a holistic view is needed to solve problems, create new procedures, or select a new HR system. For example, if there is a project to select a new Applicant Tracking System (ATS), there should understanding of what the business requirements are required for the evaluation for long term ROI. Why? Because many stakeholders will interact with the system and expect a good user experience. Otherwise, the process may repeat in a few years due to low satisfaction.

It should be no surprise to anyone who knows me that WOO is in my top five! I’m a born networker and love to connect people to others and opportunities. I was an early adopter of LinkedIn (2006), created a go-to community for HR Professionals in central Indiana on Facebook, and love hearing people’s stories. I use this strength a lot, especially since our family recently relocated to New Orleans and I am out in my new HR community meeting people every day.

It seems my life is constantly changing, so it’s a good thing I have Adaptability in my top 5. This strength helped me personally as a child of a military parent and as a consultant working with clients. I am able to quickly adapt to different organizational cultures and challenges.
