When you need HR help, hiring more staff in your HR department may not always be the best answer. Outsourcing HR functions can have a lot of benefits for your business. It can be difficult to determine whether internal or external HR assistance is right for your situation, though. Here are some circumstances that might indicate that you should call in some outside help.

You’re concerned about your budget

Outsourcing some of your HR functions can actually save you money. If your budget’s tight, outsourcing can keep those important people processes in place without increasing your full time headcount and benefits costs.

Your team is swamped

HR covers a lot of ground. If your team’s overloaded or needs help to meet a goal or project deadline, outsourcing some of your functions can free up time for your internal HR pros to focus on more strategic efforts.

You need specialized expertise

Like I said above, a lot falls under the HR umbrella! It’s nearly impossible to be an expert on every aspect of human resources. Outsourcing can help your team focus on what they’re best at while someone else takes care of the areas you’re less well-versed in.

You could use an outside perspective

When you’re in the weeds of your organization’s HR functions all day every day, it can be harder to notice areas for improvement. You may not know what you don’t know – so calling in an outsider to look at your processes can help you fill any gaps and stay compliant.

You want to maintain credibility in sensitive situations

When you’re dealing with situations like harassment investigations, 360 feedback surveys, focus groups, you may not get the best results if your internal team is in charge. Outsourcing those areas to a third party can ensure that you get honest responses and a result your staff can trust.

You need to speed things up

An outsourced HR consultant already has infrastructure and processes in place, so they’re often more efficient than an internal human resources team trying to build from the ground up. And in areas like benefits enrollment or leave management, outsourcing can make sure your team’s getting quick responses to their questions.

There are many reasons to outsource an HR function beyond just the situations on this list. If you’re wondering whether you should be outsourcing, reach out to Purple Ink – we’d love to talk about what’s going on in your business and how we might be able to help.
