Dan came to us during a pivotal moment in his career transition. Like many professionals navigating change, he needed structured career coaching services and a clear plan.
The Client
Our client, Dan, was a highly educated Senior Vice President who had enjoyed a long and successful career with a financial institution.
The Situation
Dan had been working at a financial institution for almost 25 years with a salary of over $150,000 when the company merged with another one and his position was eliminated. In his haste to find a new job near his home, he took an opportunity paying $55,000 that needed his skills managing compliance.
Our client soon realized that this job was not a good fit for him. He was not happy with the organization’s culture, and he had a domineering, negative, and micromanaging supervisor. His new employer hadn’t described the scope of work or compliance issues accurately and didn’t have enough staff to address the issues in time for the next audit. Dan dreaded going into work and felt the environment was toxic. He needed to get out fast but was nervous about how he would talk about this job without it damaging his chances with a new employer.
The Solution
As part of our career coaching package, Dan received structured support over several weeks, allowing us to build momentum and adjust our strategy as his goals evolved. Purple Ink helped Dan jumpstart his job search campaign with a great resume, polished LinkedIn profile, and a strategy for networking in a confidential manner. We also did some CliftonStrengths® coaching, and his confidence started to build.
Within two weeks, Dan had lined up a couple interviews, and Purple Ink helped him prepare for them. We worked with him to craft a transition statement and reassured him (based on our experience as recruiters) that he could tell the story in a way that didn’t sabotage his chances at a new start.
The Outcome
Two weeks after his interviews, Dan was offered a job. He raised his salary to $90,000 and looked forward to working for an organization with a culture and mission that were engaging to him.
Dan attributed his success to the confidence he gained from our coaching and knowing that he was working with a coach who had recruiting experience. We attribute his success to his dedication to the process—he took the tools we provided, did the work, followed the program, and made it happen.
