The Client
Harding, Shymanski & Company is one of the largest accounting firms in Southern Indiana and Kentucky.
The Situation
The accounting profession faces heightened competition for top talent driven by a combination of factors: fewer graduates entering the field, rising demand for skilled professionals in response to regulatory changes, and the evolving role of accountants as strategic business partners.
Candidates with specialized expertise like forensic accounting, financial analytics, and compliance are in especially high demand, often receiving multiple competitive offers. This competitive landscape puts pressure on employers to refine their recruitment strategies and create compelling value propositions to retain their top talent.
Harding, Shymanski & Company sought to transform their HR function by hiring a senior HR leader to implement state-of-the-art practices, enhance their learning and development programs, and strengthen their ability to attract and retain top-tier talent. Their aim was to create a dynamic and forward-thinking HR strategy that would support long-term organizational growth and employee success.
The Solution
Purple Ink stepped in to provide HR outsourcing support for several months and assessed what skills and expertise were critical to lead the HR function. After completing the needs analysis, we conducted a comprehensive search for a new HR Director who could lead at the executive level.
While doing the search, we were also able to help provide additional recruiting support. The search for a new HR leader involved sourcing and screening 150+ applicants, conducting interviews, and ultimately recommending candidates for interviews with the client. Additional support included conducting a compensation analysis for the role, creating interview questions for onsite interviews, and helping our client create a positive interview and onboarding experience.
The Outcome
As a result of our work, Harding, Shymanski & Company hired an accomplished human resources executive to lead their team. In a short time, their Human Resources Director’s accomplishments include implementing a comprehensive strategic plan and a redesign of many of the company’s critical HR functions. In just nine short months, many improvements have been implemented and many more are on the horizon for the firm to improve the overall employee experience, which in turn will help them attract and retain the type of talent that is so critical to their success.
